Welcome to the plankroad.ca web site!
My name is Paul Newman and I am an software designer, open
source enthusiast and systems integrator. My consulting business name is
Newman Consulting
which is a registered business name in BC, Canada. In the employ of
various
companies and in various capacities, I have been professionally
involved in computer systems since the late 1970s. I soldered my own
Z80-based PC, I paid $1,500 for a 15MB HD. Been there, done that.
This site has several purposes.
First, it should give you an idea of the kind of skills and experience
I have, to help you decide if you want to hire me for your technology
project. (You can call or write for a copy of my résumé.
If you want peruse some excerpts, go here.) I also have begun a
list of all the projects I have worked on
since 1977! This is an ambitious task and is only just begun...
Also, I want it to be a place where I can share some of the work I've
produced over the years. I am a keen user and small-time advocate
of open-source software and I want to try to contribute back something
to the cause.
Another thing I want is a place on the web where I can find all of the links to my own work and other resources I need
for my work-in-progress. This lets me work at home or on the road.
Finally, it is a parking spot for my non-work related interests, some
(but not all :^) of which you may access from this page.
